Jane:  What about pop music? Do you like it?

Lin Tao: Yes, but not so much as classical music.

Jane:  Well, I'm interested in pop music. I like it very much.

Jane: Only a little, but it doesn't matter whether I understand the words or not.       

Lin Tao: How about the Beijing Opera? Do you like it, too?

Lin Tao: Really? I don't like it at all. I'm afraid I'll fall asleep if I listen to it. It's much too slow.

    TV has a huge influence on our lives. Many people like to watch TV. Watching TV is one of the most important 1 of the day. TV brings the outside 2 closer to people's homes. Some people say the world is  3 than before because of TV. Do you think so?

    TV helps to open our eyes, and TV also helps to open our 10. TV often gives us new ideas. We learn newer and better ways of doing things.

      Many children act in TV shows. They work several hours every day, so they cannot go to regular school. How do they get an education?

In Hollywood, many TV shows are made. About forty teachers give lessons to the children in the shows. They teach wherever their pupils are working. The teachers' job is very important. They are responsible(负责) for making sure that the children work only the permitted(允许) hours each week. They are also responsible for making sure that children learn the required subjects. They make sure, too, that the children get enough rest and play, along with their education.

Children actors are required to attend classes twenty hours each week. California law says they must be taught from September to June. If they do not make much progress in school, they are not permitted to continue working in TV shows. TV children are usually good pupils, and most of their teachers like this special kind of work. Their classes are held in some wonderful places. Sometimes the “classroom” is a Mississippi riverboat, and sometimes it is the inside of a spaceship. Often the pupils become famous TV or movie stars.

      Have you seen Avatar（《阿凡达》）? It's a popular 3D movie, and you may have to wear 3D glasses to see it. The 3D glasses make the images(图像)from the movie look as if they were coming straight towards you. 

More and more 3D movies are coming to theaters. Some say that 3D TV sets will come into our homes in the near future. 3D technology can make TV and movies are more exciting. However, people with eye problems may get headaches if they spend too much time watching 3D movies. Why?

      When we look at an object(物体), each eye sees it at a different angle(角度). Our eyes send the two images to our brain(大脑), and the brain puts them together. 3D technology uses two film projectors(投影机). One projects a left-eye-image and the other projects a right-eye-image. 3D glasses allow us to see a different image in each eye. So, when we are watching a 3D movie, our brain can't put together the images sent to our eyes. The brain needs to work harder at “reading” the images. That makes it easier for people with eye problems to get dizzy(头晕的) or have headaches. A famous eye doctor said if your eyes can't focus(聚焦) on the same object at once, you will have trouble watching 3D movies.

      Most students in America like popular music. They carry small radios and MP3 with earphones and listen to music.        Students with cars buy large speakers and play the music loudly when they drive on the street.

    Adult drivers listen to music on the car radio when driving to work. They also listen to the news about sports, the weather, and the life of American people.       

      Pop or popular singers make much money. They make CDs or tapes which radio stations use in many places. Once the popular singer is heard all over the country, young people buy his or her tape.        Wherever the singer goes, all the young people want to meet him or her.       

      There are other kinds of music that are important to Americans. One is called folk(民间) music. It tells stories about the common life of Americans.        This was started by cowboys (牛仔) who sang at night to the cows they were watching. Today, any music about country life and the love between a country boy and his girl is called western or country music.

    Cartoon is the most popular TV program that attracts many children at the age 3 to 10. It's        that the word “cartoon” came from Italian. It first referred to the picture before a true drawing on the wall. In the mid-19th century, it came into English.        the 1840s , it has also come to mean any picture that is humorous, satirical(讽刺的) or showing an opinion. It usually comes out in a newspaper and magazine, with or        a short text. Today cartoons are a        of the daily life of most people. Cartoons not only show their life,        also help them relax.
