    Do you ever watch old movies? Maybe you will see one with Carole Lombard. She was a famous   1  in the 1930s. She died when she was only 34. In her   2   life she made 70 movies!

    Lombard's real name was Jane Alice Peters: In 1921, she was playing baseball in the   3 

near her home. A movie director   4   her and decided to put her in a movie. She was only 13 at the time. The movie was one of the last silent movies. She acted(表演) so well that she  5the hearts of some people. At 16, she left school to act.

    In 1925, she had an agreement with a 6   studio, 20th Century Fox. The studio gave   7 

a new name, and she acted in several films. Then, at age 18, she was in a bad car accident. The accident left scars(伤疤) on her face. The studio broke the agreement, but she did not   8 . She continued to act.

    Charles Chaplin was born in London on April 16, 1889. His parents were music hall actors. The Chaplin family were very poor, and life was difficult in London. Charlie, as he was called, used to do his mother's job in the theatre when she was ill.

    When he was only 17 years old, Chaplin got his first real job as an actor. What he did was to do silly things to make people laugh in the theatre. Seven years later he went to the USA. And over the next four years, he formed his own way of art. He developed the character(角色) of a homeless gentleman which became very popular.

    From the 1920s to the 1950s, Chaplin made his most famous films. The film Modern Times (1936) shows his care about the modern industry workers. Many of his films describe the poor life and hard time of the working people during that period.

Although Charlie Chaplin was British, he lived in the USA until 1953. But he never got US nationality. Then Chaplin, his wife and his five children had to move to Switzerland where he lived until he died. When he was 83 years old, he won his only Oscar for the music he wrote for the film Limelight. He was named Sir Charles Chaplin at the age of 85. Charlie Chaplin died in Switzerland on December 25th, 1977.

    The cartoon movie Bolt is an interesting movie. All the characters are very lovely. The movie is about a dog and his name is Bolt. Bolt is a dog star. He always thinks he is very strong. He often plays in TV programmes. Many people love him. So he is a little proud.

    One day people take him to New York, but the poor dog is lost there. The place is far from his home town. It's about 2,000 miles away. Bolt wants to return to his world. He has to face all the danger all by himself. He begins to go across the USA.

    On his way he meets Mittens, a lonely cat. Then they meet a mouse. His name is Rhino. He likes watching TV very much. They become friends. They meet many strange animals and people on their way.

    At last Bolt feels that he can be a hero both in TV programmes and in real life. The movie is very instructive.
