Nature Nurtures Farm plans to organize some charity activities in this summer. It hopes to teach young people about charity. The farm wants to get about 30,000 dollars through these activities. They will use the money to improve the public water system in the city. Here is the information about these activities.

    Farm Festival

    Time: July 18th, 9 am--4 pm

    Place: Nature Nurtures Farm

    Admission: 10 dollars for anyone 5 or older

    Other: You can enjoy music, feed farm animals, visit the fruit garden and take     pictures.

    Art show

    Time: July 18th, 2 pm--5 pm

    Place: State Capital Museum

    Admission: Free

    Other: 67 works of art will be here. You can buy any one of them, the money will go to the city public water system.

    Mentoring program

    Time: August 7th, 10 am--3 pm

    Place: Nature Nurtures Farm

    Admission: Free

    Other: Teens aged from 7 to 18 can join the program. Children with problems in helping others can get help from this program.

    When Vivienne Harr was 8 years old, she saw a photo she would never forget. It was a photo of two young boys carrying large, heavy rocks on their backs. These children were the same age as Vivienne. But they did not have the same freedom and opportunities that she had.

    In some parts of the world, children have to work hard long days and they can't go to school. Vivienne wanted to change this. “I want all kids to be able to go to school and play,” said Viienne, now 10. “I want them to be happy.”

    To help raise money for children like the two boys in the photo, Vivienne started a lemonade stand (柠檬汽水摊位) near her home in Marin County, California. She promised to work every day for a year, rain or shine. “Sometimes, it was hard for me, when the weather was bad or I wasn't feeling well,” said Vivienne. “But I knew that some children were having a harder time than I was.”

    Vivienne's goal was to raise $100,000 in 365 days. On Day 175, she reached her goal. But that didn't stop Vivienne from working. With the help of her family, she started Make a Stand. The company now puts Vivienne's lemonade into bottles and sells it in 130 stores around the US. A small part of sales goes to help achieve Vivienne's dream — to make the world a better place for all children.

    Everyone needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh, and do things with. Surely, there are times when we need to be alone. We don't always want people around. But we will feel lonely if we never have a friend.

    Sometimes friends move away. Then we feel very sad. We miss them very much. But we can call them and write to them. It could be that we would even see them again. And we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them.

    No two people are the same. Sometimes friends don't get along well. That doesn't mean that they no longer like each other. Most of the time they will make up (和解) and go on being friends.

    Families sometimes name their children after a close friend. Many places are named after men and women who have been friendly to people in a town. Some libraries are named this way. So are some schools. We think of these people when we go to these places.

    There's more good news for people who have friends. They live longer than people who don't. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. Or it could be just knowing that someone cares about you. If someone is concerned about you, you will feel good.

    These are the words of the great English writer Charles Dickens. He wrote them when he was visiting Niagara Falls. This waterfall is on the border (边界) of the United States and Canada. It is one of the largest in the world, and the largest in North America.

    Niagara Falls is on the Niagara River. The river divides just before the waterfall, and there are actually three waterfalls. On the American side are American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Horseshoe Falls is mostly on the Canadian side. The name comes from its shape — like a horseshoe, in a half circle. Horseshoe Falls is the widest of the three.

    People mainly know about Niagara Falls because of its size and natural beauty. However, the Niagara River is also an important source of electricity.

    In the 1890s, the Westinghouse Electric Company built a large power system (电力系统) on the river. Many other companies also hoped to use the land around Niagara Falls for factories and power systems. However, around the same time, many people began to work to protect the natural area. Soon, the governments of the United States and Canada got involved with it. They protected the land around Niagara Falls. They made parks — green, natural areas. No one could buy this land for factories. For hundreds of years, millions of people have visited Niagara Falls to enjoy its beauty.

                                                                     How to Grow Vegetables at Home

    Many people choose to grow their own vegetables for healthy food. You'll enjoy the fruits of your labor if you give your plants the care they require.

    Step 1

           Consider how much produce you can use. Also consider your space. Your gardening area will need at least six hours of sunlight per day.

    Step 2

           If the leaves are yellow or have holes that is a sign the plant is diseased. Look for plants with strong green stems and a shiny appearance.

    Step 3

    Prepare your soil.        Add manure(肥料).

    Step 4

    Dig a hole as deep as the plant's root ball and a little wider.       Checkthe instructions on each plant to see how much space to leave between plants. Water thoroughly(彻底地) when the planting is over.

    Step 5

    Maintain your vegetable garden by watering and weeding regularly. Your garden needs about an inch of water a week.        Weed by hand or with a tool.

    I hated math and was really bad at it when I was young, so I found others to allow me to copy their work. Even though they knew they were 1 me, there were lots of people who were glad to “help”. In this way, I2 a few tests.

    Last summer vacation, my parents and I go to the countryside to visit my uncle. It took us three hours get there by car. After having lunch on my uncle's, we went fishing in the river near her house. I was very exciting because I caught a lot of fish there. The next day, we decided to rode bikes around the village. The village was very beautiful but we were very relaxed. Then we had a picnic in a park where many child were flying kites. The country life was very peacefully.
