    First，Jan painted a grid (网格) on the canvas and put it Lip on a board in the garage(车库)，next to a table of paints．Then whenever she was home，the "art room" door was up，with an open invitation for neighbours to paint a square．The first to stop in were kids riding by on their bikes． "They thought it was cool，"says Jan，but the adults weren't so interested in it．"Most said they hadn't picked up a paint brush since primary school，"she says．"They were afraid they'd mess it up． But as word slowly spread，they came，some using their driver's licence photos as models．

    Then something started to happen．They came back-to see who had painted， or if they could find out who was who．While in Jan's garage，they began to chat about news，schools，jobs and families．Almost daily．Wendy Schucholz, who lived across the street and was fighting a serious illness，came in her wheelchair to watch the fun． Neighbours began to offer their support．

    When the worst happened and Wendy died，they stood by her husband，Bill，and invited him over for dinners．

    This year has been different in the neighbourhood． Families take turns hosting happy hours．They share birthdays and swim in one another's pools．"We're watching over each other now，"says Jan．"Just like in the painting．"

    When you are on a long road trip or in a traffic jam during a daily-commute ， it may seem harmless to connect your phone to your car's USB port．But unless you really need to use your phone，charging(充电)your iphone during your commute could be a big mistake．

    Why? For starters，the USB port in our car probably provides less electricity than your phone really needs to charge．As a result，your phone might stop working while it charges.

    Many people may notice that on their way home from work their phone charged very little during their 30-60 minute commute，"says Brad Nichols，an engineer at Staymobile．"It is mostly because that the phone is using more power than the car charger isproviding it．"

    Nichols also says that your phone could receive too much power，especially if you are using a cigarette lighter port to charge up．Most cigarette lighters can provide more power than most chargers can afford．If a charger cannot keep providing the proper power, it may make the phone broken．

    Charging your phone could do harm to your car's battery(电池)，too．This usually isn't a big deal for those who own new cars with healthy batteries，Nichols says．But if your car is older，you might not want to charge your phone through its USB port．

    Most importantly，it's not safe to use your phone while driving．"Anytime a person's hands leave the wheel or eyes leave the road，it becomes dangerous for them and the other people around them," Nichols points out．Bottom line：Play it safe，and wait until you get home to charge your phone．

    A rich couple went shopping for their party．After buying everything they needed，they called a delivery(运送)man to send the things home．The delivery man was quite old and looked like he might be too weak to carry everything．

    The old delivery man asked for $20．a very low price．But the couple still tried to give him $15 for his service．The delivery man didn't like it but agreed because he needed all the money he could get．

    The couple gave the delivery man their address．They returned to their home and waited for hours，but the delivery man never appeared．The wife started to get angry．She and her husband started to go back to the supermarket．On their way，they noticed that a young delivery man was carrying their things in his cart! The wife became angrier and shouted at the delivery man．

    The young man said，"Ma'am，please listen to me．That poor old man has been sick since last month．He hasn't been able to make enough money to buy himself food．I saw him take a bad fall on his way to deliver your things．He said．'I will give you $15 if you can take my delivery to this address．'"

    On hearing this，the couple felt ashamed．They asked where the old delivery man was and went to say sorry to him．
