    When Zoe talks about her dog, Hatti, a big smile always appears on her face. Zoe is thirteen and she was born 1 a terrible illness (疾病). The illness stops her from 2 like other children. In 2006, Hatti came to her.

"I wanted a 3 of my own to help not just me but all my family. So I called Dogs for the Disabled, an organization which helps the disabled by 4dogs for them. Things became different after Hatti arrived. It's very 5. It can get many things for me, so my mom doesn't need to be around me all the time. If I need my mom, it can get my mom in a 6— even in the midnight," said Zoe.

"Hatti is my best friend, and it is 7 to have it around. I think it makes me laugh every day. I used to be scared 8 I was alone, but now Hatti can always stay with me," said Zoe.

Zoe's mom Helen 9, "The longer Zoe and Hatti are together, the happier Zoe becomes. She's becoming more independent (独立的). I'm 10glad and I thank Dogs for the Disabled very much."

    I came to the USA because I needed to study English here. I went to an English language school. I was not a beginner, but I was not good at English. At the end of the first term, I could read, write and speak, and I thought I was good at them. However, I was not good at understanding (理解) when people spoke to me. My teacher said,” Why don't you repeat (重修) the classes?” I was not happy. I made progress (进步) every month, so I did not want to repeat them. However, it was true — I was not good at understanding when people spoke to me. My teacher said, “Repeating the classes is a good way to practice listening. And if you repeat them, you will understand more spoken English.” In the end, I repeated the classes. In the second term, I studied the same books that I did in the first term. My teacher was right. It was a good idea. Now, after studying English for a year, I can understand more spoken English. And I know that reading, writing and speaking are not enough; listening is also very important.

    On Thursday a new boy came into the classroom. He didn't have any uniform on. Just trousers, a jacket and a shirt. Tom could see that the boy wasn't quite comfortable. He had a plastic (塑料的) bag with exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers in it. The boy stood at the blackboard. Mrs. Brown talked to the boy, and then she said, “Boys and girls, this is Peter. He is your new classmate. Peter is your age. I hope you'll get on well with each other. Peter will spend a lot of time together with you.”Mrs Brown asked Peter to sit next to Tom at the desk near the window.

    The students had math after that and Tom could see that Peter was not bad at it. He counted (数数) well. It was not difficult for him at all. Then Mrs. Brown said,” It is half past twelve. It's time to have lunch. “Peter joined Tom and went to wash his hands. Then the boys sat down on the floor and started to open their lunch bags. Tom opened his bag and put his hand in it. He took out an old brown apple, some old cheese and some fish from dinner.“Oh, no!” cried Tom.” This is rubbish. I have the wrong bag. I took the rubbish bag and left my lunch bag at home. I have only rubbish for lunch today.” The other children laughed and laughed. Then Peter said,” I have two eggs. Why don't you have one? I don't need two. And would you like some bread?” Tom smiled,” Thanks. It's very kind of you.”

    Gail Mirabella works as a dog trainer for a circus (马戏团). She used to train her dogs to do tricks when she was a kid. Finally, her hobby turned into her job. Several days ago, she talked to Time Magazine reporter, Cameron Young, about her love for dogs.

    Reporter: Did you always want to be a dog trainer in a circus?

    Mirabella: When I was a little kid, I did my first dog show, a kid's dog show. And I took first place (第一名). From then on, I knew I wanted to work with dogs, but who would know I'd be in a circus?

    Reporter: Did you have any dogs growing up?

    Mirabella: Of course. I had a white dog when I was a little baby. Three years later, it died. And then we got two family dogs. On my fourteenth birthday, my uncle bought me a dog. It was a big dog.

    Reporter: How long does it take you to train a dog, one month, half a year or one year?

    Mirabella: That depends on the dog. I have thirteen dogs and I let them all play together, but I do a lot of special work with each dog. They know I am their owner because I do all the feeding.

    Reporter: If you aren't a dog trainer, what will you be?

    Mirabella: A dog. Just joking. I will probably still work with animals.

    A 12-year-old boy got lost on the subway after going out alone on Sunday. The boy came to Shanghai to visit his parents during the summer holiday. Although his parents were happy to see him, they        little time with him. The boy did his homework for two        and felt bored, so he went out to play on the subway. He had fun playing there. But when he felt tired and hungry, and wanted to go home, he didn't know at which station he should get off. The police found the boy        on the subway and took him to the office. They bought him something to eat and asked him some questions. The boy's parents couldn't find him after arriving home. They felt        and called the police right away. They got to the police office and saw        son. They were very happy and thanked the police.

    My best friend and I are in the same school. Her name is Alice. We first met each other two years ago. We were all new in the school then. She is beautiful. She has long black hair, round black eyes and a small nose. She doesn't like to dress up, so I usually see her wearing jeans and a T-shirt or sweater.

    Alice and I are always talking or laughing about something. She has a wonderful sense of humor (幽默感). When I am not happy, I like talking to her. And she always tries her best to make me happy.

    We have the same interests. We both enjoy playing the guitar and singing. We like going to the movies. Sometimes in summer, I go with her and her family to their summer house by the lake. We usually spend most of the afternoon swimming. In the evenings we walk into town or stay at home and watch TV. It's always fun to be with her.

    Though our lives get busy, we still have time to see each other. I am better in math and science and she is better in English, so we often help each other with our homework.

    I am lucky to have a friend like her.
