There was a lake near his family's house in New Hampshire. When he was 11 years old, he loved1here.

    On the day before bass(鲈鱼) season began, he2his father went fishing in the evening. When his fishing pole(鱼竿) bent over, he knew3was on the other end. The boy skillfully pulled the fish in. It was4one that he had ever seen, but it was a bass.

Saturday, June 16th

    In the morning, we went camping along a path in Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a1day.

    We were expecting an enjoyable two-day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.

    However, in the afternoon, when we finished our2at one o'clock, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was a shower. Unluckily, none of us brought3. We ran about but we could find no place to hide.

    Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were 4to go before we reached the campsite(营地). It was even worse that our small compass(指南针) showed that we went to the wrong way. We had5!

    We had to make a quick6as it was raining heavily. Chris said we could set up a tent to hide in, so Mary and   Tom helped to set up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us7. But we were unable to light the fire, as everything was8. We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about five o'clock, it stopped raining. We decided to9the camping trip because all of us had been very tired.

    This camping trip may not be very10but we know each other better. And the most important thing I've learned from this trip is the importance of team spirit.

    Everybody knows the story of Titanic and the iceberg hit it on the night of April 14, 1912. However, there are some things that are still unknown to the public eye. If you want to find out a little bit more about the mysteries (神秘) of this huge ship, please read the following contents.

    When it first set sail, the Royal Mail Steamer Titanic was the largest moving object created by man and a true wonder of engineering. It was built in Northern Ireland and about 15,000 people worked on it. The costs were huge for that time million dollars. Its length was that of three football fields and it was as high as a 17-story building.

    Heartbreaking stories

    The story of the elderly couple(夫妇) who hugged each other in the face of death is partially true. Isidor and Ida Straus were the owners of Macy's. She refused to leave her husband behind and gave her spot to another passenger. They shared the same destiny(命运) and died holding hands on the deck of the ship.

The musicians on board of the Titanic did play for two hours and a half while the ship sunk (下沉). However, the song they played wasn't Nearer my God to Thee, but Songe d' Automne.

    The end

    1,517 people lost their lives when Titanic sunk. Its wreckage(残骸) was discovered 75 years ago. Millvina Dean was the last Titanic survivor. When the ship hit the iceberg and sunk she was 9 weeks old. Millvina died in the year 2009, at the age of 97.

    Maybe you have seen this in school: Some students studying nearly all the time but they just pass their exams, while some other may spend much less time on their books but do much better in exams. How could this happen? People used to think that hard work is the only way to success. But now they understand that smart work can make them success, too.

    Hard workers don't mind working for long hours, while smart workers always think of several different answers to these questions. "Why should I suffer this?" "Isn't there a better way to do this?" Thanks to these people, we can use computers instead of the abacus now. Progress in every field is the direct result of "try to find a better way" by smart workers.

    There was a large soap factory in Japan. Once it received an unusual letter from someone who complained that there was no soap in the soapbox he bought.

    How could empty soapbox go out of the factory? The engineers checked the producing and packing. The producing was fine, but in about one in ten thousand cases, the packing machines let an empty soapbox go. There was no need to spend a lot of money repairing the machine for such a small problem. The engineer soon worked out a solution. He put a large X-ray(X 射线) machine and two large computers to find out the empty soapbox. After teaching the workers how to use it, he sat down in his seat, exhausted(精疲力尽).

    "Sir, we could have solved the problems in a much simpler and cheaper way." a worker said. "Really? How?"

    "We can put a huge fan(电扇) near the packing machine. The wind coming from the fan will blow away the empty boxes, leaving the other boxes with soap. There would be no need for an X-ray machine, two computers, and operating by workers."

    See, this is smart work. In order to succeed, we should not only work hard like the engineers, but also think smart like the workers.
